ABOUTSteven Erdman is a multi-media artist whose original work spans across cartooning, animation, songwriting and live performance. From a young age, the folklore and culture surrounding cartoon art has shaped Erdman’s view of the world, evidenced in the whimsical, and often slanted, sensibility that is reflected throughout his work. Erdman’s influences range from mid-century cartoonists to Monty Python to television pioneer, Ernie Kovacs.
In addition to his art and design work, Erdman also performs under the stage name Lard Dog & The Band of Shy, an act that burst onto the New York entertainment scene in 2015 with an off-Broadway theatre run called, "Life's A Real Dream". With quirky lyrics and infectious tunes the band has drawn comparisons to Devo, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Pee Wee Herman, and the B52's. In 2017 the band landed the #1 chart-topping song on Sirius XM with the single, "I Like” and recently performed at Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, and festivals sponsored by NYC Parks including concerts in Battery Park, Madison Square Park, Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, and Riverside Park.
